Xcel kicks off $400 million NM project

Xcel has begun construction on the southeastern New Mexico portion of a $400 million transmission line that will travel a 240-mile corridor, linking Texas with New Mexico.

By this summer, the energy giant said close to 250 people will be working on a 90-mile portion of the line between Hobbs and a new substation called China Draw southeast of Carlsbad.

Wes Reeves, a spokesman with Xcel, said in an email those jobs would be contract labor, but could not give more details at this time.
